Activities Manager – Outdoor Adventure Centre

About the role: 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and approachable Activities Manager to join our team at Grosvenor Hall in Ashford! The Activity Manager plays a pivotal role in the central leadership structure with overall accountability for the recruitment, welfare, and development of all activity team members.

You will be expected to create an effective and cohesive high-performing environment that empowers team members to deliver safe, fun, and educational life-changing experiences to all our guests. 

This impressive 50 acre site boasts a huge range of activities including water sports, archery, climbing and an extensive ropes park that features a triple zipwire, 3G swing and high ropes course. You will be reporting to our friendly General Manager and the role is based on 40 hours per week, worked across variable shift patterns. 

Main roles and responsibilities:

  • Leading the activity team through mentorship, development, and inspiration.
  • Managing, Renovating and Enhancing all areas of activity delivery, paying particular attention to the Water Sports product. 
  • Support the other Heads of Department in undertaking the role of Duty Manager in line with the company rota. 
  • Support programmers to achieve programs in line with brand guidelines and product expectations. 
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with technical and training providers.
  • Create an environment that supports the development of staff and helps retain and attract our high-performance talent. 
  • Empower Team Leaders to take on full ownership of their teams’ morale, welfare, and development 
  • To manage safety on the Centre through compliance to Health & Safety policy, SOP, and safeguarding.

Essential skills: 

  • Experience leading a team in a similar environment as a Chief Instructor or Activities Manager
  • Level 5 operational management or equivalent 
  • Staff moral building skills and coaching knowledge 
  • Confident communicator (both verbal and written) with a personable and professional manner and the ability to interact and relate to all levels of employees and build strong working relationships.
  • Personable and approachable, with the ability to lead, mentor and develop small teams.
  • Focused and great attention to detail to maintain high standards 
  • Effective communicator and solution-focused.
  • Recognised outdoor NGBs.
  • Experienced in working in the Outdoor Industry, with education skills 

Desirable skills:

  • Sheltered water coach qualification 
  • Knowledge of BAPA, AALS and PPE code of practice
  • Apprenticeship knowledge 
  • Driving licence
